Plustek SmartOffice PS282 Scanner

Review:
The Plustek SmartOffice PS282 is an impressive scanner for its size both in cost and capability. The small footprint works well for a crowded desk environment but produces a respectable 25 page-per-minute (ppm) rate or 50 images-per-minute (ipm) in duplex mode. Inhouse tests prove these numbers to be accurate at 200DPI. The Twain driver comes with some nice options built in. Brightness, Image Edge Fill, Auto Deskew, Auto Crop, Remove Blank Pages and Auto Rotate are noteworthy enhancements that are applied before any Laserfiche enhancements. Adding enhancements does reduce the ppm but this is typical for any scanner.

The bundled software is useful because of the one touch scanning feature. Simply press the scan button on the scanner itself and it will automatically scan based on preconfigured settings and save to a Windows folder. With Laserfiche Import Agent, scanning and storing in your repository can be accomplished without logging into Laserfiche.

Connecting to your PC is handled through a USB 2.0 port and scanning is supported in LF through the Twain scan engine. High quality color images can be achieved through the capability of scanning in 600DPI. The PS282 is a smart choice at its price point and performs well in small to medium volume environments.
